Your mobile astrophotography darkroom

From noisy framesto a finished sky.

Astrophotography stacking combines multiple exposures of the same night sky. Astro Stacker aligns the frames, strengthens repeated light and reduces random noise so stars, skies, the Moon and planets come through more clearly. Import, calibrate, finish and export the result without moving the session to a computer.

01Import

Bring in the night.

Choose a sequence from Photos or Files. Free works with standard images; Pro adds RAW, Apple ProRAW and native FITS files captured with compatible cameras and telescopes.

Start with standard photos from an iPhone or iPad, or bring in higher-control camera and telescope files through Files on Pro.

  • Camera RAW and Apple ProRAW on Pro
  • Native FITS files on Pro
02Alignment

Lock every star into place.

Astro Stacker detects celestial detail and corrects movement between exposures before combining them.

Common stars are registered before the frames meet, so small shifts between otherwise matching exposures do not soften the stack.

  • Sub-pixel registration
  • Multiple interpolation modes
  • Automatic quality analysis and poor-frame rejection
03Calibration

Remove the noise your camera creates.

Use matching calibration frames to correct thermal noise, hot pixels, vignetting, dust and sensor read noise.

Darks address thermal signal and hot pixels, flats address vignetting and dust, bias frames capture readout offset, and dark-flats calibrate flat exposures.

  • Dark, flat, dark-flat and bias frames
  • Background and channel calibration
  • Optional when you are just getting started
04Stacking

Choose how the light comes together.

Use a quick average for an early look or choose an advanced method when trails, variable frame quality or faint detail demand more control.

Stacking strengthens detail that repeats across aligned frames while reducing random noise; no single method is best for every scene.

  • Average, Median and Maximum
  • Kappa-sigma and Entropy-weighted
  • Auto-adaptive weighted average
05Finishing

Shape the final light.

Begin with a purpose-built style, then refine the result with controls designed for astronomical images—not a generic filter dropped onto the dark.

Finishing happens after integration, with astronomy-focused styles plus tonal, colour, gradient and channel controls.

  • Natural, Nebula Pop, Cosmic Drama and Scientific styles
  • Levels, saturation and luminance midtone controls
  • Auto Stretch, gradient removal and per-channel colour balance
06Result

See what the stack revealed.

Compare the finished image against the original frame, inspect the result and choose the right format for sharing or further processing.

Compare before and after, save to Photos, then export JPG, PNG, TIFF or FITS; 16-bit exports are available on Pro.

  • Interactive before-and-after comparison
  • Save directly to Photos
  • JPG, PNG, TIFF and FITS export

One workflow,three ways in.

Astro Stacker keeps the processing close to the images you already have, whether they started in Photos or came through Files.
